Counselling means getting support from a trained professional to help you deal with things that are getting on top of you or preventing you from living your life the way you want to.

Life can be difficult sometimes, and we all go through dark times. We may feel very sad, lost or angry; we may have to do things we do not want to, or we may not be able to do what we would really like to.

Counselling can provide  support  in these situations through helping you to  understand things and challenging and supporting  you so that you’re able to come up with your own solutions.

Susanna Nijenhuis Counselling Psychologist

Susanna Nijenhuis

I am a counselling psychologist specialized in forms of therapy dealing with relationship and work related problems. I founded Alma Counselling* to provide services for expatriates and international professionals, but my services are open to anyone who feels they can benefit from counselling.

I believe that every person is different, with a unique personal history, present life situation, and future wishes. This means that every counselling process is different. I use  professional knowledge and evidence based techniques from  counselling and psychotherapy that can provide powerful tools, but I believe that they must be used with deep respect for the uniqueness and complexity of each individual.

I also believe—supported by many studies—that the progress and outcome of counselling depend greatly on the creation of a safe, respectful  and authentic therapeutic relationship, which I strive to offer.

I offer traditional individual counselling sessions, which take place in my office in Hoofddorp (Amsterdam/Haarlem area) or online.

Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have questions about counselling or if you have doubts about whether it could be useful in your situation.
