Living abroad, starting a new job or study in an unknown culture, being away from friends and (extended) family can make expat and international life difficult.
I offer individual sessions for people who would like me to help them work on their relationships or other matters.
When problems are related to work, extended family or other relations, it may be difficult (and sometimes impossible) to attend the sessions together.
In individual counselling we think about your relationships and your past and present with a view to finding some clarity for you moving forwards. And when you change, when you think, feel and act differently, it's going to have an effect on your relationships too.
While many things can be related to the relations of the present of the past, sometimes another point of view may be more helpful. I work in an integrative manner, which means I use different counselling techniques (and individual therapy forms) and try to tailor an approach specifically for you according to your circumstances and wishes.
Personal Life
You may be experiencing problems in your current relationships, and not wish to undertake therapy together with your partner/friend/family member. Or your partner/relation may have difficulty, for whatever reason, participating.
Perhaps you find yourself repeating patterns with partner choice or relationship style. You might have difficulties finding or sustaining a loving relationship, or want to think more about what you want.
Expat and international life can present a lot of personal (and sometimes unexpected) challenges in all kinds of situations. Individual counselling can help to better understand these challenges and find ways to cope.
Professional Life
Work or study can be stressful for many reasons and cultural differences can cause additional problems. If you experience a lot of stress for a long time or have psychological or (unexplained) somatic complaints, it pays to seek help to prevent illness or (prolonged) burnout.
It could also be that you are dissatisfied with your progress in your professional life, or just want to get more out of yourself. Or want to better understand your own possibilities and find out what you want to achieve.
